Cement Mills, Gore
Basic information
Sample name: Cement Mills, Gore

Reference: A. Bartholomai. 1977. The fossil vertebrate fauna from Pleistocene deposits at Cement Mills, Gore, southeastern Queensland. Memoirs of the Queensland Museum 18(1):41-51 [ER 3691]
Geography
Country: Australia

State: Queensland

Coordinate: 28° 17' 48" S, 151° 29' 48" E
Latlng basis: stated in text

Time interval: Late Pleistocene

Min Ma: 0.0536

Age basis: U/Th

Geography comments: "Cement Mills, Gore, is located approximately 70 km northeast of Texas", a town in the Goondiwindi Region of southern Queensland.
U/Th dating of two megafaunal teeth from the deposit "yielded almost identical ages of 53.6 ± 0.2 ka and 53.9 ± 0.3 ka" (Price et al. 2009).
These dates most likely represent minimum ages for the fossil accumulation, due to the nature of U/Th dating on fossil bone and teeth.

Environment
Lithology: siliciclastic (mixed)

Taphonomic context: carnivore accumulation, cave, fissure fill

Habitat comments: "The cave and fissure deposits from Cement Mills occur in the Devonian–Carboniferous limestones of the Texas Beds that form part of the larger Wooloomin-Texas Block of the New England Fold Belt".
"Fossiliferous sediments are represented by cemented breccia fissure-fills and cemented cave floor sediments that are dominated by clays, silts and carbonate nodules".
"Only a single stratigraphic faunal-bearing unit has been recognised within the deposit".
"Faunal elements likely entered the caves and fissures via marsupial predators that used the caves as lairs, and wash and fill processes".

Methods
Life forms: rodents, other large mammals, other small mammals, birds, lizards

Sampling methods: quarry

Sample size: 291 specimens

Net or trap nights: 0

Basal area status: not applicable

Sampling comments: No specific excavation details are provided. The counts below are of the remains described by Bartholomai (1977), which seems to report all faunal material that has ever been collected from the site.
